General Conclusions

1. He nearly always worked for himself, as an independent contractor or an entrepreneur. During the short time he was employed as curator of the California mineral exhibit in St Louis his writings show he had difficulty in cooperating with less capable people.

2. He was fast off the mark with new projects, not so good at carrying them to completion.
